New
Jobs-Increased Economic Development
Helped create or retain more than 5000 jobs since 1996,
including TeleTech (600 jobs), Duke Energy (800 construction jobs) and
Vertex (500 jobs). As of February 2007, Fayette County's
unemployment rate is 4.9%. That compares to 11% twelve years ago.
NOTE: A 2005 report from the Penn State Data Center
identified Fayette County as one of the fastest growing counties in
the State of Pennsylvania.

Completion of the Mon-Fayette
Expressway
Has consistently pushed hard for
completion of the entire expressway.
The Mason-Dixon link in PA was opened for traffic in 2000. Several miles
of expressway have been completed in West Virginia. The remaining 2
miles to Interstate 68 is projected to be completed in 2009. The
Uniontown to Brownsville section is projected to be completed construction in
2008.

Connellsville Airport Runway
Extension
Has helped secure $8 million in
federal and state funding, lobbying our US Senators, Congressmen and Governors,
the past 7 years. Another $7.3 million have been requested in the
Federal budget next year. The county has provided $1.1 million in
matching funds. Construction is projected to begin in 2008.

County Business
Park/Infrastructure
Has advocated partnering with the
County Redevelopment Authority and provided $7 million in bond issue
funding for water, sewage and roads in 3 phases. The business park has already
attracted 9 new tenants and 140 new jobs.

Public
Transportation Enhancement
Has focused on public transit to enhance the quality of
life for all
citizens, including veterans, senior citizens and handicapped
individuals. Millions and millions of dollars have been secured to improve buses and equipment. An intermodal transit facility
has been built at the Connellsville Airport.

Maximum
Tourism Promotion
As Co-Chairman of the County Strategic Plan has worked with
the
Fayette Forward tourism committee to enhance and better coordinate
tourism activities throughout the county. Has supported the completion
of the Sheepskin Trail from Connellsville to West Virginia and grants to
upgrade county parks.
